Each chinchilla comes with their own background and story for how they got here to BFF Chinchillas. Our pricing for rescues is a set, flat fee. Costs do not increase or decrease based on the animal's history or stay at BFFC. Adoption fees for standard grey chinchillas are $150 and adoption fees for mutation chinchillas are $200, adoption prices for whites, mosaics, curly, and angora are on a case by case basis depending on demand to ensure these animals do not fall into uncaring hands for backyard breeding. These prices are set to ensure the animal's will be cared for properly with proper thought put into the longevity, needs, and veterinary care costs of these exotic animals. These prices are non-negotiable. These prices do NOT offset the cost of proper veterinary care and the time and effort we spend to rehabilitate these animals. The fee is set to ensure these rescued chinchillas do not end up in irresponsible homes and have to suffer through the same fate of rehoming or neglect. If you are looking for a "cheap" or "affordable" pet, an exotic animal is not a suitable option as their veterinary care runs hundreds to thousands of dollars for each visit.

BFF Chinchillas is an individually operated hobby breeding operation. We are not a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and we do not ask for or expect donations to assist in caring for and rehoming these rescues and owner surrenders. We take in unwanted chinchillas as our efforts to give back to the community and assist these special little creatures that cannot help themselves.

There is no adoption form to fill out and no house visits or references needed for adoption. We do have potential adopters meet with us for a visit to meet the intended adoptee and for an extensive meet and greet. The typical adoption appointment is 1-2 hours in length and we will ask many questions about care, caging, and experience with chinchillas. The only thing we use lack of experience for is how extensively to discuss proper care and caging of the animals. Please email us through the contact us form to set up an appointment!

Rescue and Owner Surrenders

Chinchilla Availability and the Adoption Process

As most people know, any good breeder should be willing to take in the occasional rescue or owner surrender. Here at BFF Chinchillas, we will always take back an animal from our breeding free of charge with no questions asked. In order to honor this policy, we do require proof of purchase. Proof of purchase can be presented in a couple of ways, first as a screenshot of previous communications or forwarded communications with either of us or if you were provided a bill of sale with one of our signatures, this will also act as proof of purchase. Without proof of purchase, we cannot, in good faith, take on animals claimed to be ours free of charge. We do not offer payment for taking in an unwanted animal that we may be housing through their natural lifespan. All chinchillas that are surrendered to BFFC are taken on with the hopes of rehoming, but with an understanding that they will most likely be permanent residents.

For animals bred by BFF Chinchillas and purchased from us, we will take the animal back with no surrender fee charge. We do not pay to take our animals back. Once an animal has left our care, we are no longer guaranteed anything about their health or husbandry. We take the animals back understanding that they may need several months to recover before being offered for rehoming. Proof of purchase must be provided to surrender the animal and animals must be surrendered by an original owner, not a third party (i.e. if the animal was sold to you and they said it came from us, you will be charged a surrender fee regardless of proof of purchase).

For animals not bred by BFF Chinchillas or purchased/adopted from BFF Chinchillas, we charge a flat $100 surrender fee due to limited space and high demand for surrender. All surrenders MUST be surrendered with a suitable hard sided carrier. The surrender fee goes immediately to the care of the animal and provides necessary support for 2 months. All animals coming through our facility must undergo a 30 day quarantine period to be assessed for health and communicable disease. Once they are cleared, this gives approximately 1 month to search for an appropriate, permanent home for the chinchilla. Medical costs, time, and all but the essential care items are not calculated into the surrender fee. You may surrender a cage with the animal, but it is not a necessity. To recoop costs spent on the animal, we encourage you to sell supplies purchased that do not require the long term care that a living animal requires.

All animals rehomed as rescues do not come with a health guarantee. All animals are available for adoption when their body condition is deemed healthy and other habits like eating, drinking, pooping, and activity levels are indicative of an overall healthy animal. These animals, however, were not bred at our facilities so we cannot guarantee the animals are free from genetic complications, heart issues, or other organ failures. We do our best to place happy, healthy chinchillas into long term loving homes, but be advised that their health and freedom from genetic disorders is not guaranteed. Rescue and surrender chinchillas are sold "as is" and once they leave our facility all medical bills become the sole responsibility of the adopter.
